In the glimpses shown of Pi’s life after the raft we see that Pi has been able to maintain a unified self by bringing together many different elements of the society. In Pi’s early childhood he lacked a strong female figure. He only talks about two females in his life one of them is his mother, Gita and the other his auntie Rohini. Gita and Rohini are complete opposites when it comes to religion. Gita had no interest in religion and attempted to get Pi to focus on the scientific and mathematic way of life while his auntie Rohini believed in religion and wanted Pi to be involved with it. She was the first to introduce him to religion by bringing him to a Hindu temple when he was a baby "Mother carrying me, Auntie propelling her.
