Throughout the Life of Pi discoveries are explored as both challenging and rewarding with many obstacles being laid in Pi’s path. the settings and places that the movie holds also hold the concept of discovery. the mosque is an important place of religious discovery for Pi. However it holds the challenge of knowing what religion you want to follow. Pi who was brought up as a Hindu starts to explore other religions such as christianity. Krishna mouth becomes a powerful symbol for how discoveries can be both challenge and rewarding. Pi’s mother teaches hum an awareness of the universe as a place of mystery and marvel ‘Yashoda, saw in Krishna’s mouth the entire universe’ the visual representations create a spiritual atmosphere throughout the film, most evident where krishna is laid in the background made up of a forest and nature representing him as a visual term of the Hindu religion and a sense of wholeness and magic of reality in which all creatures have their own place, struggles and beauty. however Pi’s father does not accept that Pi wants to be a christian, saying the only way is Hindu.
