Lesson 1
What are we doing today?
How are these activities relative to each other?
What are Lifetime Sports?
Lifetime sports are low-impact and low-risk activities, and they do not involve physical contact with other players. These activities promote fitness and improve health at any age.
Activity: Write down as many lifetime sports that you can think of in TWO MINUTES!
Sample list of Lifetime Sports
Dance
Skiing (Cross Country)
Racquetball
Jogging
Skiing (Down Hill)
Sailing
Scuba Diving
Golf
Horseback Riding
In-line Skating
Yoga
Martial Arts
Project Assignment
You will be selecting TWO complex skills from ONE lifetime sport to analyze using a skills analysis and action plan.
Then you will perform the skills …show more content…
What are we doing today?
Today you will identify and analyze the key elements of a sport skill in order to assist in the improvement of performance.
What are the breakdown phases of a skill
Most skills can be divided into three phases:
1. The Preparatory Phase.
2. The Execution Phase.
3. The Follow-Through Phase.
The Preparatory Phase
Movements that get the athlete ready for the movements in the execution phase
Example: The backswing in striking actions such as golf or tennis.
You are bringing your arm back in preparation to hit the ball.
The Execution Phase
2 Parts to the Phase
1) Force-Producing Movements: How the athlete moves to produce force for the impact or propulsion.
Example: The forward motion of the tennis forehand shot.
2)The ‘Critical Instant’: The point of contact (or the release) of the movement.
Example: The moment of contact in a tennis serve between the ball and racquet, the actual release of the shot put or javelin, or the take-off in long jump
The Follow-Through Phase
This phase is where the movement slows down after impact and the athlete prepares for the next …show more content…
Execution Phase - The forward drive and moment of contact between the ball and the club.
Follow-Through - The deceleration and path of the club after striking the ball.
Practice Skill Analyzing
You will partner up and perform your own self analysis of the simple skill of throwing a piece of paper with your dominant and nondominant hand.
1 person Athlete - The thrower
1 person Coach - Record the motion and write what the athlete looks like and is doing.
Note: This will contribute to the final unit grade.
Once you Finish the Partner Analysis
Take the two skills you have selected for the Lifetime of Sport assignment and break them down just like with the throwing motion.
Make sure you fill out both tables for both skills.
When finished find someone who had the same sport, but a different motion and provide feedback to it.
Lesson 3
