In Stanley McChrystal’s writing “Lincoln’s Call to Service- and ours” he uses different persuasive strategies to inform and persuade the reader to agree with him on his claim. The main two strategies that McChrystal uses are a logical appeal and an ethical appeal. These appeals used by McChrystal are very effective for the reader.
The first appeal that I observed was one that targets the readers emotions. McChrystal targets the readers emotions by providing an anecdote at the beginning of his writing. This especially takes place in McChrystal’s childhood. Targeting the audience emotion is one of the best ways to get the audience invested in the reading.
