One problem of personal experience is our perception of things. We all have a different way of perceiving things therefore they will oftentimes be very different from someone else's. We have different personal life experiences; hence, if we were to level personal experience and knowledge, we would be unable to agree on truth in any matter. For example, if one student traveled to Italy over summer vacation and saw the Trevi Fountain and St. Peter's Basilica, they know through personal experience that these landmarks exist. However, someone who has never traveled to Italy has never personally experienced and perceived the existence of these places. With this in mind, does that mean they do not know if it exists? Of course not. They can also obtain knowledge about the existence of these places through history books, photos, and another person's personal experience through means of language. However, individuals gain knowledge from reading, studying, and gaining beliefs from facts learned by experts who dedicate their lives to studying certain feilds. Personal experience, though, makes beliefs more clear to an individual. If you experience something, it is easier to believe because you went through it and learned yourself. The facts are clear and you can trust a personal experience. A person cannot experience everything we need to know to live happily. Knowledge then comes in, and we just have to believe that the information we gather is correct. Personal experience is a way of learning that you know is true through learning something first hand. Knowledge is what we gain through other's experiences. There is a difference, but in the end everything we know is someone's experience just passing it
