Based on the chapters 1-3 of “Long walk to water”the setting shapes the character Nya to have an outstanding mental fortitude, displayed through her actions and thoughts, to face her harsh and water scarcity setting.During Nyas walk to the pond due to the dangerous setting because of littered thorns in the ground “a big thorn that had broken off right in the middle of her heel. Nya pushed the skin around the thorn.
