Eating lots of food for a short amount of time can lead to kids becoming sick and having health problems. Why make kids sick just to have more class time, when you could have a simple fix by adding time for lunch? In addition, the longer the lunch, the easier it is for students to eat more nutritional foods. The Healthdirect website says, large portions of unhealthy foods can cause obesity and health problems such as increased stress levels. Based on Education Week, it states having a lengthier lunch would give all students longer amounts of time to eat fruits and vegetables. Simply adding a few extra minutes to lunch could help reduce health problems for the present and future, and also help lower obesity problems just by having the chance to eat healthier foods. On the other hand, having extended lunches would most likely result in longer school days. Having longer school days would take away from after school activities, and even family time. School days already take up so much of a student's day, so why make it
