Looking For Alaska

For our book club, Lisa, Leo, and I read Looking for Alaska by John Green which is about a teenager named Miles Halter nicknamed “Pudge” who enrolls in a boarding school and is transfixed by a girl named Alaska. At our first book club meeting, we discussed the first 80 pages of our novel. When we began, we discussed our general opinion of the novel and of each of the characters like Pudge, Alaska, and the Colonel. Overall, we found the Looking for Alaska interesting and each of the characters funny and relatable as well. Originally, all three of us disliked Alaska as a person but as we continued to read the book, she slowly grew on us and we began liking her. For this meeting, Lisa was our host and she wrote several questions for us to answer. Most of the questions that she wrote were pretty easy to respond to and we were able to relate some of our answers to personal experiences. Lisa, Leo, and I decided that we would discuss Looking For Alaska over dinner at Eickhoff. Because I did not know Lisa or Leo very well, I was nervous that our book club meeting would be very awkward and that we would not discuss anything at all. Instead, I thought we would all be staring at each other while one of us attempted to make conversation. However, I was extremely wrong. We found ourselves discussing Looking For Alaska at a relaxed pace while eating dinner. It was nice and calming to discuss the book without having the added pressure of the whole class being there. Even after we finished discussing Looking For Alaska, we continued to talk to one another about our daily life in college.
