One theme that stands out is bravery. On page 318 Alyss says, “I’ve finished running from you, Redd. It’s time for you to run.” Alyss’s bravery here in the story helps lead her through battle against her evil Aunt Redd. In order to restore Wonderland, Alyss had to fight against Redd to take back the throne of the queendom, this means she has to conquer her fears and do what is right. Also on page 339 Alyss thinks to herself, ” I can’t be angry. Won’t be. I conquered my anger in the maze. One sub-conflict that helped the theme bravery is Alyss’s inner conflict. A piece of text evidence that supports that Alyss’s inner-self conflict helped develop the theme is, “ ...but an Intended never left the maze with less than when she entered--although hopefully, as in Alyss’s case, she left with much more. “I’ve finished running from you, Redd. It’s time for you to run.” (pg. 316, paragraph 1 and pg. 318, paragraph 3). This supports the fact that Alyss’s self conflict helped because this shows, while in The Looking Glass Maze, she was able to find the courage, strength and confidence that she did not have before. This helped her become brave enough to openly challenge Redd. Another reason this supports the claim is that without finding her confidence in herself and powers, Alyss would not have been brave enough to defeat and overpower Redd in the height of the battle and or never have the ability to challenge Redd in the first place. Another conflict that helped bravery progress throughout the plot is Alyss’s conflict with the Victorian era on Earth. A piece of text that supports this is, “Alice worked hard to enter into the world in which she found herself…” “I had to shut my mind to them in order to survive.”(pg. 162, paragraph 1 and pg. 234, paragraph 2) This supports the claim because the resolution of her conflict with
