Former President of the United States of America, Lyndon B. Johnson, gave a speech on January 8, 1964 called First State of the Union Address. Johnson’s purpose for this speech was to unite the citizens of the Unites States to “battle” against the uprising of poverty, and unemployment. Johnson starts his speech by getting straight to the point. He explains how and why changes within the country needs to be made, and then goes on to elaborate on each of his points.
