What would you do in order to save your family from a home invasion, or save your position at work? Would you do whatever means possible so you come out the one on top? Machiavelli's esteemed piece of writing has been used since the 1500’s to help shape politics. Some say it is ruthless, self-serving and evil. But all he is saying it is in our human nature to do whatever means possible to have the power. Not only relates to just politics but it addresses how to maneuver life in a smart and calculated way. In today’s world, the end does justify the means because in order to end up on the top in your career, educational journey or personal life you need to be able to do whatever means possible to get there.

Like I mentioned before it has shaped modern politics. Obama, in particular, has taken after a lot of what Machiavelli has said about generosity and miserliness. During his presidency, he passed the affordable care act which gives everyone the ability to healthcare. This is what Machiavelli says about generosity. “prince, therefore, unable to use this virtue of generosity in a manner which will not harm himself if he is known for it, should, if he is wise, not worry about being called a miser; for with time he will come to be considered more generous once it is evident” What he is saying in this quote is that there will be a time and place that a leader can be generous and when that time comes it will show. Obama’s passing of the affordable care act changed millions of Americans lives. They could actually go see a doctor for any health issue and be covered. One of Obama’s biggest accomplishments as president was the killing of the terrorist Osama Bin Laden. He was persistent, calculated and smart when it came to finding him and executing him. “A prince, therefore, must not have any other object nor any other thought, nor must he take anything as his profession but war.” Obama took after this quote very much so during his presidency. He never stopped looking for Osama and when his time came the fortune changed and the United States was able to kill one of our biggest terrorists at the time.
