One of the major goals of President Lyndon was clearly displayed in the Great Society. This was a set of programs in the United States that was launched by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964-5. The goal that the president was in eliminating racial injustice and poverty. He also had incorporated major spending programs that aimed at addressing medical care, education, urban problems and infrastructure needs (Dickinson, 2009). His initiatives increased his popularity and that of other fellow Democrats in the Congress. Some of the initiatives that President Lyndon implemented were initiatives that were stalled in John F. Kennedy’s reign.
Lyndon succeeded majorly because of his good persuasion skills that attracted many liberals to the Congress. This ultimately made the House of Representatives at that time the most liberal since 1938. President Lyndon was also aiming at increasing finding to military aid and improving the medical sector. Examples of initiatives he championed include Medicaid, Medicare and the Older Americans Act. His goal …show more content…
He signed bills into laws that enabled the American citizens to put more emphasis on humanities and social sciences, especially in elementary schools. These initiatives were lobbied by federally funded humanities and arts that were initiated during the Kennedy administration. The groups that were involved in these programs include the American Council of Learned Societies and the United Chapters of Phi Beta Kappa. These partners joined hands to establish a National Commission on Humanities (Dickinson, 2009). The emphasis was on the endangered focus of humanities throughout postgraduate programs. Arts facilities and national cultural centers were also improved. They received federal funding that was aimed at allowing their completion during the Great Society legislation.
