There was a prolific amount of mixed bloods in the tribe. The total population was 16,542. 12,463 were full blood and about 3000 were one-half or one-fourth. The Cherokee people also distributed their money unequally between the rich and the poorer tribesman
President Andrew Jackson was very passionate about removing the Cherokees before his term ended. With that the New Echota Treaty came about. It stated that the Old Nation Cherokees need to move by May 23, 1838.
