First Monday speaker, Mark Charles spoke on the issue of racism in America and its historical impact on the United States. Charles argued that the racism observed today is a product of United States’ passed cure treatment of people groups such as the Native Americans and the black community. Years of cruel behavior towards these groups intentional or not intentional has produced what Charles calls white trauma. Basically, this term attempts to describe how the white community knows that it has acted unfairly towards people of color but still refuses to admit to their faults and begin the process of reconciliation. Instead, the white community attempts to ignore its passed pretending racism is no longer an issue
