Who was Martin Luther King Jr.? Martin Luther King Jr. was an African-American that was born in the Civil Rights area. Born on January 15th, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. King grew up in the Auburn Avenue community.King was a middle child, between an older sister, Willie Christine King, and a younger brother, Alfred Daniel Williams King. As a child, King became friends with a white boy, who´s father owned a business near his home. King had then lost the boy´s friendship because the child’s father did not want them playing together anymore. ln the fall of 1947 , Martin Luther King delivered his first sermon at the pulpit of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Ebenezer's congregation voted to license King as a minister soon afterward, and he was ordained in February 1948, at the age of eighteen. In 1948, he graduated from Morehouse with a B.A. degree. King then enrolled in Crozer Theological seminary in Chester Pennsylvania and graduated with a degree in B.DIV.
