The MRT competences are: Self-awareness, Self-regulation, optimism, Mental Agility, Strengths of Character, and Connection. Self-awareness is the conscious knowledge to identify feelings, attitudes, and thinking. It is fundamental to understand the environment, especially to identify counterproductive patterns (MRT, 2014). Self- Regulation in the MRT course shows how is relevant to know to regulate and express emotions the right way, avoiding counterproductive thinking (MRT, 2014). About optimism competence, MRT teaches to stay realistic with hope and how combat the negative tendencies (MRT, 2014). Mental Agility provides the opportunity to develop the flexibility, willingness to do things, and the ability to identify and understand problems (MRT, 2014). Strengths of Character is an essential factor that Soldiers have to have to build morality and integrity. MRT presents how strengths of character is useful to overcome challenges and achieve goals (MRT, 2014). Understanding the importance to develop strong relationships, use the effective communication, and support others are the purpose of improving the connection MRT competence (MRT, 2014). MRT teaches fourteen skills that contribute and support the course construction. They are: Goal Setting; Hunt the good stuff; Active event, Thoughts, and Consequences (ATC); Energy Management; Avoid Thinking Traps; Detect Icebergs; Problem Solving; Put in perspective; Mental Games; Real-Time Resilience; Recognize Character Strengths in Self and Others; Character Strengths; Assertive Communication; and Effective Praise and Constructive Responding, (MRT, 2014). The MRT skills develop resilience, building mental toughness, identifying character strengths, and strengthening relationships (MRT in the Army, 2011). Brazilian Army does not have a program to develop resilience competencies and resilience skills into Soldiers.
