Scout really grows into a well mannered and mature kid by the end of the book. One way Scout shows that she has matured was in chapter 9 when a boy named Cecil Jacobs said that attics fights for "niggers". "My fist were clinched and I was ready to let fly. Atticus had promised me he would wear me out if he ever heard of me fighting anymore; I was far too old and too big for such childish things" (Lee 99). This quote shows Scout has matured because if anybody had said something like that to her before show would jump on them and beat them up but since she has matured she knows not to do such things and think two times before doing your actions. Another example that shows scout maturing is when she has stopped thinking about boo and has grown older and on the way from school she had to pass by Ms.Duboes house but she hated because Ms.Duboes always said bad stuff about her but she had to grow up and ignore her and just do it . "When we were small, Jem and I confined our activities to the southern neighborhood, but when I was well into the second grade at school and tormenting Boo Radley became passé, the business section of Maycomb drew us frequently up the street past the real property of Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose. As Atticus fist went to his hips, so did Jems and they faced each other I could see little resemblance between them: Jems soft brown hair and eyes, his oval face and snug fitting ears were our mothers, contrasting oddly with Atticus graying black hair and square-cut features, but they were some how alike. Mutual defiance made them alike. Son, I said go home. Jem shook is head. In this quote it shows Jem has really matured because he understands the importance of the situation and he realizes that if he leaves that his dad will get beat up so he refuses to leave which was the right decision it was also very mature and courageous. Another way Jem shows that he has showed that he has matured threw the book is that Jem realizes how ugly the world can be and how unfair it is because how unfair the trial was. He also realizes why boo always inside. "I think I’m beginning to understand why Boo Radley’s stayed shut up in the house all this time… it’s because he wants to stay inside.” Lee 295. This quote shows that Jem has really began understand reality and how cold and unfair the world is and now he has realistic views of the world and knows everything does not end in a fairy tale ending which really shows that he has matured very well and is a young man
