Medicine Wheel

The Medicine Wheel is primarily the influence for Aboriginal people considering their world views, how the natural world grows and works together in synchronicity, it represents Earth’s boundaries and all the knowledge of the Universe in one symbol. Originating from Americans of European ancestry in the heart of the Bighorn, the Medicine Wheel is located close to Sheridan, Wyoming. There is limited information about where the medicine really came from but the earliest archaeological evidence shows that it can be dated back to. This medicine wheel can be dated to 4500 - 5000 BP while some other styles of medicine wheels like the Ellis Wheel can be dated back to up to millions of years.

Other descriptions for them are wolf, eagle, bear and buffalo and teachings that go along with each one of the four domains vary depending on the concept being used. Another set of names that I am typically fond of are the four elements, fire, air, earth, and water. Teachings of fire that lets us see things clearly, air that keeps us breathing, earth and water that provides nourishment to nurture our planet's ecosystems, allowing us to survive as a whole. These are just a few of the many names/concepts the medicine wheel teaches.

Holistic is defined as being characterized by the belief that the parts of something are interconnected only by reference to the whole. Adjoined to this definition would be the medicine wheel, as it is four sections joined together as a total providing an image of a circle.
