It is difficult to imagine the threatening nature of different professions in the Middle Ages. Weak science and technology meant that we know deliberate simple tasks were a lot of work for those who lived between the fifth and fifteenth century in Europe.
Among the toughest of the medieval professions was the job of the lime burner. This was doubtfully the worst job during the Medieval period due to numerous factors.
1. The lime can potentially paralyse or kill you because there was no protection.
2. You have to watch the lime for 48 hours’ day and night.
3. Quick lime is dangerous and can burn hands.
Firstly, the occupation of being a lime burner was definitely the worst role in the Middle Ages, due to being potentially paralysed or killed with no safety protection. Their job ranged from heating up chalk to running a lime kiln. The job required the worker to handle lime which contain a very dangerous toxic carbon monoxide that can certainly paralyse or blind you. The risk of getting paralysed or killed from the lime is just one example of why being a lime burner was the worst job in the Middle Ages.
Secondly, the occupation of being a lime burner was positively the worst job in history, due to watching the lime all day and night. The job required the worker to watch the lime for 48 hours, and this job …show more content…
In times of the Middle Ages, people doing this job would suffer a lot because when the lime burner burns the lime; the dust of the lime can cause irritation to the hands. The job required to watch the lime can be dangerous because the lime produced dust which can cause burn in your hands, especially when the lime burns at 1,100 degrees Celsius. Getting burns in your hands from the lime is just a glaring example of why being a lime burner was the worst job in the Middle Ages
