Currently there are six intramural men’s soccer leagues with four or more teams in each league. Roughly 360 males played on an intramural soccer team this fall semester. Within these teams are many special soccer athletes that have great abilities and skills. I, myself, made a team that I play for on Thursdays and Sundays. When I go play I see how other teams that have players that can play on the Division One level. 11,362 males are currently enrolled at ECU, and with no doubt is a good amount to create an efficient Mens Soccer Team. That means more air time on television, more applying students; resulting in more money for the school and athletics program. Some students applying to East Carolina are wanting to play soccer for a Division One college. Since 2005, the year the ECU Mens soccer team was revoked, there has been a 13% increase in population at ECU. With East Carolina rising in all population and athletics, who would not want to be a part of a Pirate Mens Soccer Team? The only thing is, athletes looking to play soccer at ECU are disappointed when they arrive since East Carolina currently does not have a Mens Soccer Team. Also, if they reestablished the Varsity Soccer Team, they could give scholarships to certain students that would play on the team. Since they have a Women's team, why not have a Mens team as well. Together the two soccer programs could bring in a good amount of money and exposure. ECU Mens Soccer can be the next best sport if the athletic committee can reinstate the team
