The reading The Crucible of Struggle: A History of Mexican Americans from Colonial Times to the Present Era, relies on “Immigration from Mexico and economic growth in the southwest became integrally related. As a result of the annexation of California in 1848, influenced the American settlers into the region. The growth of Mexican Americans was seen as inferior and unwelcome. They were denied access to political power and economic opportunities.
