Since the founding of Colombia, art has been a way to document important Political milestones and cultural memories. Colombian artists have created many different types of work including textiles, printmaking, contemporary paintings and photography. There is even archeological studies that show ceramic artwork dating back to three thousand B.C.E. (“Colombia”). However, it is also shown that a lot of the art is based on the different time periods of Colombia, and Catholicism influenced the artwork. The 1940’s completely revolutionized the Columbian art period, as Pedro Bel Gomez and Santiago Martinez Delgado.
