The study of microbiology is not only the study of organisms that cannot be detected without the use of a microscope, but also the foundation for researching and eliminating harmful bacteria. The purpose of the unknown report is to identify the unknown organism through various experiments and techniques used in microbiology. How it works is each student is given a list of possible unknowns and numbered organism. Students must show mastery of different material learned throughout the course to determine species, shape, and etc. During the process in identifying the unknown organism, several terms are used throughout this report: aseptic technique, microscopic examination, selective/differential media and positive and negative controls.
