I am writing to you today asking you to support S.1150, the increase in the Federal minimum wage. This bill will raise the federal minimum wage to $12 per hour by 2019. Obviously, the current minimum base is $7.25 per hour which is too low for a full time hard workers to support all their households. As a result of that, they rely on government assistance such as Food stamps and Medicaid.
This issue directly impacts me because nowadays I do not work and can't because i'm a full time student in St. Petersburg College. However, after a few months, I will be in need for working in order to be able to pay for my university tuition, which is $20,000 fees per year.
