Most college students are generally stressed since this is a pivotal time in their life. However, ethnic/racial minority students experience minority stress in additional to general college stress. The definition of minority stress in an academic setting includes the scholastic, cultural, social, and personal daily struggles because of their status as a person of color (M. F. Wei, Ku, & Liao, 2011). This impacts their transition into a university because oftentimes they are first-generation(Smedley, Myers, & Harrell, 1993; M. F. Wei et al., 2011). Concerned students of color fear confirming their stereotypes and are often judged for either inadequately or excessively being involved in their culture (Ojeda, Navarro, Meza, & Arbona, 2012).
