“You were born to be real, not to be perfect.” This anonymous statement reflects the imperfections of the human body. The body has many imperfections and maladies. These maladies explain to us where the origins of the human body were derived from in history. Maladies of the human body can directly relate us to our ancestors which gives us information about the origin of the human body. Science has proven that there are many claims to support this statement. A malady of the human body that can directly relate our relationship to fish and tadpoles, are hiccups. As stated In Your Inner Fish, “The hiccup reflex is a stereotyped twitch involving a number of muscles in our body wall, diaphragm, neck, and throat.” In order to breathe, our brain stem is required to send messages to several muscles. This arrangement means that the nerves are susceptible to spasms, which can cause hiccups. As Neil Shubin wrote,” We can see the nerve arrangement of the brain stem in some of the most primitive fish in the fossil record.” That evidence suggests that we can directly relate our nerve arrangement to specific fish to see where the human body was originated from. Gonads develop in the same place as a shark, up near the liver. After they grow and develop, they then descend, which creates a weak spot in the body wall. This is what causes many types of inguinal hernias in men. Some of them are congenital, which is when a piece of the gut travels with the testes as it descends. In Our Inner Fish, it says,” The reason hernias exist is when the gonads descend it leaves a weak wall which a pool of blood can come together if you aren’t active.” Hernias occur often to truck drivers; since they sit for long periods of time all the blood comes
