Identifying Heroes of the Modern World
Everyday life is not easy, but there is always something or someone that encourages us to get through the day. Some individuals may offer words of kindness, a helping hand, or a simply a smile. These people are modern-day heros. Although they do not fight off dragons and sea monsters, as heroes in Anglo-Saxon literature, they show bravery in other ways. Those who serve in the military, donate money to those in need, offer guidance to those who are lost, or dedicate all of their time to help others are heroes. There are also other heroes, other people who regularly practice kindness. Anyone who is willing to help another person, despite the disapproval or hardships they may face for doing so, may be considered …show more content…
Although I am unsure of anything related to college, Mrs. Stewart continues to encourage me to look at schools and contact them with any questions I may have. When I begin to doubt my worth and ability to succeed in life, she speaks with reason and helps me recognize that life is made up of unknowns but that it will all work out. Mrs. Cirulli is also another one of my many heroes. I am in her Honors Statistics class as well as her AP Calculus class. When I am struggling in either one of those subjects, I may go to her with a list of questions. In doing so, I recognize her kindness and commitment to her job as she gives up time to help me understand concepts with which I am uncertain. Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Cirulli are only two of my many heroes. Nearly all of the teachers at Newport are one of my heroes. Their compassion reaches far beyond the walls of the …show more content…
There is no set of qualities that one must express in order to be considered a hero. Some of the most common qualities seen in heroes are kindness, bravery, selflessness, and compassion. A hero should express kindness to those around them because it is their kindness that causes other people to look up to them. When heroes are kind, those they help will try to follow their example. In this way, the kindness of a hero causes a ripple effect, where others express kindness to those around them due to the kindness they were shown by their hero.
