Modern Day Racism in the Pursuit of Education Who is more qualified to be accepted into college? A 4.0 GPA student with perfect SAT and ACT scores or a 3.2 GPA student with underwhelming scores on the tests. Many would find that this would be an easy decision to make. The truth of this situation is, if the first student was an Asian American and the second student was any other ethnicity, the second student would have a statistically higher chance to be accepted by a high ranking school than the Asian American. The reason this occurs in this time period of education is because of “affirmative action”. This policy allows colleges to legally discriminate against any ethnicity of their choosing. Colleges like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton are notoriously known for advocating affirmative action and enroll diminishing amounts of Asian Americans year after year. Affirmative action must be declared unlawful by the government to ensure equal opportunities for all students, no matter the ethnicity. Colleges are discriminating against ethnicities based on a belief that certain races deserve more opportunities. It is not fair to the students who rightfully earned a spot in the college to not be chosen due to the school wanting more diversity.
