What motivates countries to respect the sovereignty of other countries? The threat of war can be a big factor in respect, as well as trade relationships. The Monroe Doctrine was a document that essentially banned European influence in the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine was an appropriate foreign policy statement for the United States in 1823 because it protected newly independent nations, it created peace in existing colonies, and it helped the U.S establish relationships with the new countries.
The Monroe Doctrine protected newly independent nations. It did this by saying that no European nation could try and re-take an independent nation that the U.S has acknowledged. This kind of policy for trying to keep clear of European powers was not
