Dwight Lyman Mood once said, "Character is what you are in the dark." This can mean many things to different people but for me it means that your true self comes to light when it's just you by yourself all alone. This can be shown in the short story, "The Most Dangerous Game" because when Rainsford starts being hunted he has to try to survive and constantly be at the top of his game but it shows that when night came and he was all alone his emotions started showing that he was scared, this was revealing that when it was just him, his true feelings and thoughts came to light. Another reason his emotions and true feelings started to show was because when your in a dark time or part of your life your true colors show.

This can be described from the quote I stated earlier that this is Rainsford's character in the dark meaning that his true character started showing when he was all alone.

While everything is going on and Rainsford is trying to hide and run from the general he doesn't really show what he's actually feeling deep down, but instead he just focuses on surviving and winning. When everything does calm down and stop for a brief period of time and leaves him all alone with himself and his thoughts he starts showing what's really going on with him. This explains to us through his emotions and feelings that you are truly yourself when your alone.

In conclusion, I agree with Dwight Lyman Moody when he said "Character is what you are in the dark." When people are in a chaotic moment or a lot is going on around them and they have to stay focused, they are going to put away what they actually feel or think as did Rainsford to survive and win, but when you are all alone in a dark time you are most
