Methodology
Evaluation and Participation Criteria
A multiple-baseline design will be used to explore coping skills taught to individuals diagnosed with an intellectual disorder through an adaptive version of DBT and utilized in between weekly group sessions. The multiple-baseline design is an approach designed to address more than one concern that can be applied in a variety of settings (Bloom, Fischer, & Orme, 2009). The design approach assists the individual to identify and generate a pattern of change as well as the possible causal relationship between interventions and outcomes (Bloom, Fischer, & Orme, 2009).

Traditional psychotherapeutic interventions and the effectiveness of this form of therapy with individuals diagnosed with an intellectual disorder has been a long-standing issue for debate (Inusohan-Moizer, Sawicka, Dendle, & Albany, 2015). DBT incorporates psychotherapeutic and mindfulness-based interventions to teach emotional management skills that may improve interpersonal relationships. The individual may have the presences of other co-morbid psychiatric disorders and maybe taking routine medications to address co-morbid psychiatric disorders or aggressive behaviors. The individual will meet weekly one-on-one with a trained co-occurring Mental Health and Developmental Disability therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment to set personal goals and work toward desired change. Each Wednesday afternoon, the individual will participate in weekly ninety (90) minute group skills training session for twelve (12) months. The group will be taught four modules of DBT; mindfulness skills, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Mindfulness skills are central to DBT and will be the first skill taught, reviewed weekly, and taught in
