"We need to leave in five minutes!" my mom said as I was getting ready for a very important day: the day of my ankle surgery, I had been waiting for this surgery for an entire year. Due to an injury, I had osteochondral defect on my left ankle. In other words, I had a missing piece of cartilage on my ankle. This caused me to have immense pain when walking, running, jumping, and performing other tasks. Before I knew it, we were on our way to Florida Orthopaedic Institution located in Temple Terrace, Florida for my surgery. Once we got to the surgery center, we immediately checked in. "There’s no need to be nervous, everything will be okay, I promise." Dr. Clare said as he too, tried to reassure me. Next, he began to show my parents and I where he would be making the incisions on my ankle. "We will be making an incision up here, as well as over here." He said as he pointed to various locations on my ankle. After talking to my parents about the surgery some more, he left the room and on his way out, said, "Your anesthesiologist will be in shortly to give you some medicine." Before I knew it my anesthesiologist came in the room to give me an IV. Carefully, he placed the IV into my wrist. The first fluid that was pumped through the IV into my wrist was Valium, otherwise known as a fluid that relaxes you. After the Valium ran out, he put the regular saline fluid into the IV bag. This was to make sure that I stay hydrated throughout the surgery. The anesthesiologist then left shortly after, two nurses came into the room because it was time for me to go into surgery. After saying goodbye to my parents, the nurses wheeled my hospital bed out of the preparation room and into the operation room. I was then transferred from the hospital bed to the operation table. There were many nurses and doctors surrounding me as well as other nurses in various parts of the room. One of the nurses them held a mask up to my nose and mouth which contained gas that would make me fall asleep. While the one nurse was holding the mask up to my face, another nurse
