In each of those years I had to undergo surgery. Though they weren’t anything major they did prohibit me from being so independent. My first surgery in 2014 was done on my left ankle. I had torn cartilage in my ankle and it required surgery. They went in and cut the torn cartilage out and drilled several holes into my ankle bone. I was in a cast for several months and I was pretty much immobile. During this time I started to feel like my independence was dwindling. I had to have special arrangements for my transportation, I was confined to my bed or the couch for a majority of the time, and I couldn’t go do something when I wanted to. Even a simple task like using the restroom became increasingly difficult. A year after I originally broke my ankle, I broke my toe. Normally a break in a toe wouldn’t be too much of a concern but, the way my toe was broken it wouldn’t heal back correctly. This time around it wasn’t as bad as my first go around though I did retain some of the immobility from my previous break.
