Useful creations have been made throughout the years that vary by health, transportation, public safety, computer technology, industrial and even home and recreation. As of 2012, NASA claims there over 1,800 spin-offs out there in these fields. An important invention was the Ventricular assist device (VAD) which is a heart pump for patients who need and are waiting for a heart transplant. Artificial limbs are being created more durable and better thanks to NASA’s space robotic and extravehicular activities. NASA’s request for stronger parachute material resulted in Goodyear Tire and Rubber company developing material that is 5 times stronger than steel. That material resulted in the production of a new radial tire with life expectancy of 10,000 miles greater than normal tires. (http://spinoff.nasa.gov/Spinoff2008/tech_benefits.html). Another lifesaving invention created by NASA’s mission and ambition in space exploration was a chemical detection sensor in aircrafts. The sensor detects dangerous chemicals in aircraft that can cause severe damage and put lives at risk. That resulted in creating sensors for detecting certain chemicals in large facilities. Ever since space exploration became an important task for mankind, important inventions have …show more content…
The US wanted to win the Cold War and felt that winning the space race was necessary and needed. Thanks to the war, NASA was able to supply 8,000 jobs. To this day that number has increased due to the agency becoming bigger and more important. According to NASA.gov, the agency provides around 19,000 jobs and increasing. (http://www.nasa.gov/50th/50th_magazine/historyLetter.html). With today’s unemployment rate, 19,000 jobs sound very pleasing. As the agency continues to get bigger, the more jobs will be
