National Junior Honor Society Reflections Sofia DeGraff 8-503 April 2024 Especially in today’s society, it’s crucial to exhibit leadership, citizenship, service, and character. By focusing on improving these traits over the past few weeks, I not only feel as though I have become a better person, but I also feel as though I have positively impacted the people and environment around me. Consciously working towards developing these traits has helped me to better my understanding of what it means to be an active member of my community. The activity prompts I used helped me understand my character traits, and how the things I do can help those around me. This, however, was the first time that I sat down with her and asked her to show me something she needed help working on. We ended up working on some math assignments about box plots, which was a good refresher for me as well. I also assisted her by helping her make flashcards for her science test and then quizzing her. Although she seemed familiar with the concepts, I could tell she understood some of the vocabulary better afterward. Since we are also both preparing for the NY State Test, we reviewed some essay techniques that we will both be using for many more years of our lives. At the end of the day, simply crossing out a bingo box was not only helpful, but also fun for both of us. I also think the gesture of asking if I could help her with her homework positively affected her mood for the rest of the day. This activity contributed to my service, as it is my duty to help and provide my younger sister with anything she needs, let alone homework. Of course, this also positively impacts my character and citizenship, because it provides insight into my personality and how willing I am to help others at any time
