There are several societal factors that have influenced the mental and physical health of the Native American population. The oppression, exploitation, marginalization and traumatic experiences have created a domino type effect within the Native American groups. The colonization of Native American land along with the abuse, genocide, and displacement from their lands caused much mental anguish to the Native American people. They experienced a loss of identity and began to feel worthless and depressed.
