In this picture, my hair is sticking to a balloon after I rubbed it against my head. This is an example of static electricity. Static electricity can be created by rubbing two objects together. The rubbing of the two objects creates a buildup of electrons, therefore creating a negative charge. By rubbing the balloon on my head, opposite charges are built up on both me and the balloon. The balloon gains electrons as they are transferred from my hair to it, which ends up giving the balloon an overall negative charge. Consequently, my hair is left with an overall positive charge. When I pulled the balloon away after the rubbing, my hair was attracted to it since they had opposite charges. The negative charge of the balloon attracted the positive
