New Netherlands was an ethical and religious diverse colony, where half of the population was Dutch and the other heritages included French, Germans, and Scandinavians and there was even a Jew congregation from Brazil. Since New York was located between the New England Puritan colonies and the catholic Maryland, the settlers had different beliefs and religions. However, it recovered quickly from this war and became of the most important seaports on the Atlantic Ocean and the trading capital of the country. In 1810, New York became the largest city in the Western Hemisphere. Currently, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and a nucleus of immigration. It is also considered as the cultural and financial capital on the world.
