Throughout history, the Moon has always been tied to mystery; this includes magick, intuition, superstition and power. On one hand, it has been correlated to deep emotions, on the other hand to curses (ie. werewolves). Each phase of the moon brings forth a different type of energy; therefore, knowing the type of energy associated with each phase of the moon is of the utmost importance in any type of magickal dealings, as this can influence the outcome of a spell. Another important aspect to remember is while the phases are important, and consistent from month to month, the energy of any particular month will need to be taken into consideration to improve one’s overall success rate for any type of magickal work.

The first phase of the moon is the referred to as the New Moon. The New Moon begins as just a sliver in the sky, it lasts for one day, and it is known to be a time for regeneration, new beginnings and starting fresh. This is a perfect time to begin any type of manifestation, or new course of action, as the energy is pure and untainted. Ideally, this is a time to perform spells that you wish to gain momentum and power with over time, rather than something you wish to accomplish immediately. While there is not a lot of potency in New Moon energy, there is a lot of potential; therefore, spells that have been cast during this phase should come to fruition by the time of the Full Moon.

The Waxing Moon is the time in between the New and Full Moon, and lasts for approximately 14 days.
