Through rhetorical questions and repetition, wiesel develops a significant shift in Eliezer’s faith from strong to bad. His faith before the Holocaust was powerful, he said, when his father asked him why he prayed, he said “Why do I pray? Strange question. Why did I live in the U.S.?
