Non-profits, just as any other successful business, need people to govern it. This takes place in the form of a board. The appearance, regulations, and responsibilities of each board varies slightly. In an article published by Non-Profit Quarterly, the idea of a normal board was challenged. Boards at the time the article was published predominantly consisted of the same type of people which included, an executive director over forty, a white executive, and a white board chairs to name a few commonalities (McCambridge). Although that has to do with the physical appearance of a normal board when it comes to some policy issues there is little variation also. By expanding beyond the normal frames of a board you are able to take on a new look to problems that others may not have noticed. By adding diversity to the group, it allows for a better-rounded and informed decision to be made. Diversity is a word which has taken on limitations. Diversity on a board should include, but also should not be limited to, age, race, political views, and stature in a community. Some individuals will be adamantly against it. For them, the question of why must be asked. Are those people relentless because they don’t like what is going on or are they able to identify a potential problem if this action is acted upon? Organization reflection is what must take place during this time. Considering what is best for the nonprofit will motivate people to carry out to their full potential. The ideas and goals for the future must be embraced by the members of the board. If the leaders of the organization, the ones who are held accountable and deliver the large decisions, are not able to capture the vision it will be toilsome to obtain those goals. This may mean some people will leave, on their own accord or may need to be asked to do so, but this allows a spot for those who may need to be brought to the team. When change comes to responsibilities or procedures, then opposition is also likely. Many people do not like change when the pattern which has been used appears to work fine. Considering what is necessary for the individuals being served by the non-profit is essential. For organizations to carry on in the future and be fruitful change may be
