In the book, Not Under My Roof: Parents, Teens, and the Culture of Sex, Schalet examined how both countries, America, and the Netherlands, have been influenced by multiple factors such as school environment, healthcare, and most importantly family and peer relationships. Having these factors playing into each community, it creates a “home to many urban sex cultures - an alchemy of bodies, customs, commemorations, symbols, institutions, and histories” (Ghaziani 2017b: 34). This structure of a sexual community creates power for teenagers to follow these assumptions if they want to fit into society. These assumptions put too much pressure onto these students, where along with the book's points on how school, family, and even healthcare can put too many pressures for teenagers to live up to these standards, this can inhibit them from trying out sex or even to try more sex for them to fit in. Through the power that many factors in the sexual community can have on teenagers, this can add a lot of assumptions from the community onto them, making it hard for teenagers to explore their sexuality and feel a separation from society due to how much is being put into it. In the Netherlands, there are expectations that there should be interactions before sex. Teenagers need to get to know their boyfriend/girlfriend before they are allowed to have a sexual relationship, where through multiple factors they allow for teenagers to understand the importance of
