The human being was created in God’s image and I believe that the dignity of a human person is the foundation of all the principles of our society. In video # 1 the narrator says that we have the ability to create, worship, communicate and relate. Which means as God intended, we all are capable of love. As healthcare workers, we ought to treat patients with love, kindness and care regardless of their backgrounds, race or financial means. When I moved to his country, I was amazed to see how people treats their animals like humans. I have met individuals who spent hundreds of dollars on animal food and well-being, while there are hundreds of children who are hungry. The way we feel, mentally and spiritually can affect our bodies greatly. Holistic nursing is significant because many patients base their health views off their religious believes. In the textbook, on pg. 1, the author states that regardless of all the difficulties nurses face at work, God is always present to guide them through. When standing next to their patients, nurses are standing on “holy ground” because God is present. In many institutions, a lot of patients are deprived of their spiritual support when needed the most. I am grateful that where I work, there is a hospital chaplain service available all day and night when required by patients and their families. In addition, I have seen firsthand the difference when nurses are religious. It says on pg. 12 “being with a sick person without judgment creates space or meaning to emerge and the holy to be revealed”. This statement by the author echoes my sentiment.
