Group activities may include: attending concerts, having sing- alongs, even having some of the local musicians, high schools and colleges perform in house. In fact, this may even benefit high schoolers in the form of community service hours. A library of cd’s or recorded music, iPods, headphones, can enrich lives on a more individual basis. If any of the residents can play instruments or have vocal abilities, they can perform and encourage other residents, or form a choir or musical group. In an aging in place situation, the caregiver or volunteer can ask their client if they would benefit by listening to music while dining, while transporting to and from stressful situations such as doctor appointments, or even to encourage physical activity such as walking.
