As our fossil fuel resources continue to deplete and the emissions of greenhouse gasses continue to grow, we now face the ever growing problem of finding power sources that are both renewable and virtually clean. According to research, the city of New York has a population of over 24 million people, and now all face the skyrocketing prices electricity. ()Should we build a new nuclear power plant to ease the power demand or continue to rely on the coal and other fossil fuels? Replacing our current power sources with nuclear energy is the biggest long term solution that will not only benefit the people, but also decrease the amount of greenhouse emissions that continue plague our breathing conditions. Nuclear Power Plants contain a lot of radiation and when that radiation is exposed to people, they get diseases and cancers. Nuclear Power Plant had an uncontrolled build-up of heat and it resulted in a meltdown of one of their reactor cores. Nuclear power has effects on the environment through the nuclear fuel cycle, through operation, and from the lingering effects. Nuclear power has at least for waste stream that creates spent nuclear fuel at the reactor site, they produce tailings at uranium mines and mills. The worst accidents at nuclear power plants have resulted in severe environmental contamination. To attain nuclear power, plants fission atoms to release heat energy. With the release of heat energy, a plant then boils its water which in turn runs the turbines that generate electricity. However, both nuclear reactors and uranium enrichment facilities must be carefully decommissioned using processes that are occupationally dangerous. Nuclear meltdown is just an informal term for a severe nuclear reactor accident that results in core damage from overheating. Nuclear power plants have three different wastes: liquid waste which is reprocessed continuously, gas waste which is filtered, compressed, stored so it is allowed to decay, diluted and then discharged. Solid waste which can be disposed simply by placing it where it will not be disturbed for a few years. Studies from 2007 claim to demonstrate increased risk of various diseases, especially cancers, among people who live near nuclear facilities. Going back to electricity, conventional approaches to providing electricity to the public, again, this approach to alternative power is very advantageous when weighed with power attained by fossil fuels alone. However, plants are provided with sources of power that last longer and produce greater quantities of electricity, where in a plant that produces power by fossil fuels must have their supplies constantly replenished in order to keep on providing for the people.() In the US today, most people are in opposition to nuclear power but only because of the faultiness of the technology. In the early years of nuclear power, incidents like the Chernobyl and Three Mile Island meltdowns only occurred because there wasn’t the advancement in technology. Nuclear scientists have estimated that people living within 50 miles of a reactor were exposed to less than 2 milligrams of radiation. The atmosphere transported radiation from Chernobyl into Europe causing panic. During the decade following the Chernobyl disaster an estimated 10,000 people located in Belarus. People now have a fear that there is a high risk factor for meltdown in a nuclear plant. I am against the nuclear power because with nuclear energy, nuclear power and weapons advance as well. America Attacked Japan and killed three hundred people within days. As we all know, the use of atomic bomb against Japan was an unnecessary and even inhumane action coming from America. First of all, the bomb was made strictly for defensive purposes. Developing the atomic bomb, U.S.A. had a WWII state of mind. Creating the atomic bomb as a defensive weapon against future possibility of war, America considered atomic bomb as Mutually Assured
