A human’s physical needs are needs that are essential to life and contribute to the wellbeing of the body to keep it in good working order and as healthy as possible these include air, food and water, shelter/protection from harm, mediation and mobility. Emotional needs are concerned with the way we feel about ourselves, as individuals we need to feel good about ourselves and be able to manage our emotions in a positive way. Emotional development depends on the fulfilment of these needs they include the need for love and to be valued, a sense of self-worth and self-esteem and opportunities to develop a positive self-concept. People have different cognitive needs at each stage of development, also known as intellectual needs these needs involve the need to learn and gain knowledge, make informed choices and decisions, creativity, solving problems and mental stimulation. The assessment stage is carried out by both family and care professionals it involves gathering information to determine the individuals needs and what type of care is best required. There are several methods used in the assessment stage to effectively evaluate the individual, Care workers and professionals are hired in to observe the patient, they also have discussions with the client’s family and friends. Medical notes and earlier history are taken into consideration and often referenced to. In some circumstances care professionals may also have discussions with the client being examined. Looking at my case study when Stevens family noticed his condition deteriorating this was the point at which they arranged for a care professional to come in and carry out an assessment on Stevens condition to decide which would be the best decision for his overall care. The second stage is the planning stage, this is when care professionals begin to establish an intricate plan for the patient, involving different strategies to hopefully meet the identified needs, taking time into great consideration. The plan involves specific objective and clear guidelines as to what interventions are required and who from, it also takes into consideration the wishes of the individuals.
