I feel that this goal will help me progress as a professional by first and foremost, keeping me alive. In law enforcement, you deal with all type of people, many times in close quarters after they’ve been injured. OSHA allows all agencies to be able to provide protective gloves, masks, and eye protection if necessary, when responding to calls. Protocols are also in place if I were to be injured, or come into contact with an infectious disease while working. This is comforting, because it lets me know that if I’m hurt, there are steps in place to get me help as quickly as possible. It also helps keep me safe while I’m driving the cruiser around. An officer has one less thing to worry about on patrol if he knows the vehicle he’s operating has no major mechanical flaws, and is reliable. Both of the law enforcement agencies I’ve worked for, conformed to OSHA’s regulations, and I feel that this was a major reason why while employed, no officer had contracted any type of dangerous infectious disease, nor have had major vehicle malfunctions during operation.
