Obesity seems to be a growing problem found in younger people every day, especially in North America. There definetly needs to be changes in the way that we eat and take care of our health on a day to day basis. Obesity can affect anyone in any age group, but is aimed more at younger children today. Obesity is a serious problem that affects one in three people in their life time. It is estimated that more than 93 million Americans are affected by obesity, with that number predicted to climb to 120 million in the next five years, and the biggest cause of this problem? Fast food chains.
Obesity is caused by an energy imbalance between calories consumed and calories burned. But in our generation, we tend to eat more calories, and not balance it out with enough excersice. So by eating all of this junk sold to us all the time, why doesnt anyone take the time to make a fresh, home cooked meal anymore? Everyone at some point or another, as felt over weight or obese, but its just human nature. There is a huge difference between the two, and that goes by un noticed most of the time. For example, being overweight means you have an excess amount of body weight, compared to set standards. This excess weight may come from muscle, bone, fat and/or body water. While being obese on the other hand, means you have an excess amount of body fat. Everyone needs a certain amount of body fat for stored energy, heat insulation and other functions, and science has proven that men with more than 25 percent body fat or women with more than 30 percent body fat are considered obese.
In todays society, people tend to go for what is more convenient rather then healthy. I must admit, i too am a victim being sucked into all these fast food chains. We all eat it, but it is becoming a bigger problem, as the empty, fat filled calories that are being served to us are the only food people see, to be eating. All the fat, carbohydrates, saturated/trans fat, and sodium, it is associated with higher body mass index, less successful weight-loss, and weight gain, slowing down your metabolism. Since most fast-food restaurants are aimed more at the younger audiences, scientists are concerned that the obesity rate will raise, and that kids as young as 5 will start to become obese. There is a big epedemic about fast food chains not caring about our health, and just worrying about money. Truth is, they dont care about out health. If they did, they would not exist because of all the lives they are taking from consuming their filthy food.
I dont think people realize what kind of harm they are doing to their own bodies while eating this food. They are so distracted by how good it tastes that they pay no attentin to the damage that is being done. A
