While trying to achieve his personal legend, Santiago had to defy his heart and leave the women he loves. In the desert Santiago falls in love with women of his dreams, desert women, named Fatima. He thought that he has found his treasure and continue to incomplete his personal legend, but Fatima informed Santiago to finalize his original goal. As Santiago was entering Africa, he was surrounded by unfamiliar people and area. Santiago has trusted the wrong deceitful man. This person was suppose to guide him towards the Pyramids but instead stole all his money and left him stranded by himself. But as Santiago slows down and takes in his surroundings, he was able to achieve his goals. Coelho states, “He looked around at the empty plaza again, feeling less desperate than before… it wasn’t a strange place; it was a new one.” (41) Santiago became too impatience and naive, he did not comprehend his surroundings, Santiago was naive enough to not trust his gut feeling about the guy. But Santiago did not give up on his dream because of unavoidable event. He still pursued his goal of retrieving his treasure.
