I find it interesting how both Oedipus and his daughter, Antigone share the same fate but for opposite reasons. Antigone claims her fate with pride. She believes that fulfilling her responsibilities as a sister, defying Creon, and doing what she is the right thing will give honor. Even though is aware that she will die, she knows her death will not be in vain. Oedipus, on the other hand, rejects his fate and believes that he has outwitted the Gods well enough to escape it. However, in their family, both the acceptance of destiny and the rejection of it, both lead to a brutal end. Or maybe it was their rejection of a power stronger than themselves is what lead to both of their demises.

I also wonder if the prophecy was some sort of test made
